FINA WC Day 3 - Men's 3m Synchro Springboard

Jul 15, 2003

Dimitry Sautin and Alexander Dobroskok from Russia captured the gold, having left the defendind world champion Chinese behind.

In Fukuoka just one of them has participated. But the Chinese were able to win then. Not this time, even though the Russians didn't have much time to train together (Dobroskok was injured during the last training Camp in Palma de Mallorca), but their performance was quite impressive.

The biggest problem for the winners was to choose the right dives for the free program: 3.5 somersault tuck and 2.5 somersault reverse with 1.5 twists were added to their free program just a few days before the Championships.

Nevertheless the marks for every one of these dives were outstanding. Their win was the result of a very confident performance.

The level of competition (compared with previous meets) increased greatly. The Russian winners reached the masterpiece level. The Russians got seven 10s, the highest possible awards for their dives, the Chinese received it once, and many times were close to while receiving 9.5s.
