Russia was never going to lose this game but it did strike a speed bump in the form a defiant Brazil. Dmitri Stratan had Russia ahead early and Robert Seabra (BRA) replied at 2:44. However, two more Russian goals had them ahead 3-1 at the quarter. Daniel Mameri slammed one in from centre forward for Brazil in the second but Marat Zakirov and Stratan had the score at 5-2 by the turn. Alexander Eryshov converted a penalty but Seabra nailed a shot from the top late in the third for 6-3. Zakirov scored his second from an excellent cross pass 12 seconds from the hooter for 7-3. Stratan gained a third in the fourth period, driving to the centre and receiving the ball on the hand. He dropped it but it was swatted back to him by a team-mate and he converted. Two more goals late in the period blew the game out to 10-3.

Spain didn't disappoint the 3000-strong crowd with a strong victory over Slovakia. Salvador Gomez opened on deep right-hand catch at 5:15, Slovakian captain Peter Veszelits was left alone on one post and scored at 2:06 but Ivan Moro sent in a screamer from the top on the next attack for 2-1 at the break. Gabriel Hernandez from the top on a cross pass and Javier Sanchez-Toril with a backhand from two metres, had Spain 4-1 up by 1:49 of the second. Hernandez struck again and Josef Hrosik replied on extra for Slovakia. Hernandez added a third on counter and after a Spanish timeout, Sanchez-Toril swept in his second just after the extra time was up. He repeated the dose with five seconds left for 8-2. Slovakia took a timeout and converted through Juraj Zatovic and a minute later Hrosik sent in one from right-hand catch for 8-4. Spain called a timeout on extra and Sergi Pedrerol received a cross pass on two metres to convert but on the next attack Hrosik scored from two metres for 9-5. Daniel Ballart lobbed a goal for 10-5 at 0:30.
