Aug 1, 2009  - Craig Lord

Rome 2009, Day 7

Women's 50m breaststroke

Yulia Efimova wore a skimpy traditional suit on the way to a 2:26 200m breaststroke. Today she donned an X-Glide and fell 0.01sec shy of Canadian Amanda Reason's world record, set earlier this month.

The Russian teenager clocked 30.24, ahead of Kaset Carlson (USA), on 30.34. Eight women got below 31sec. The only sub-31sec swim in Melbourne 2007 heats would have finished 7th in Rome. The winning time of Jessica Hardy from the 2007 final would have finished 5th in Rome heats.
