Jul 28, 2012  - Karin Helmstaedt

Olympic Games, London, Day 1 semi-finals:

Cameron van der Burgh of South Africa set himself up in lane 4 of the men's 100 breaststroke final on Sunday by posting an Olympic Record of 58.83 - .94 down from his morning swim of 59.79. He was followed by Italy's Fabio Scozzoli in 59.44, and Brenton Rickard of Down Under in 59.50.

Having set her own Olympic record in the morning, now three-time Olympian Dana Vollmer of the US posted just off her best in the second semi of the women's 100 butterfly at 56.36. Alicia Coutts of Australia, and Jeanette Gray Ottersen of Denmark, both swimming on either side of her, conserved their second and third placing respectively in 56.85 and 57.25. That left Sweden's Sarah Sjostrom somewhat out in the cold in the first semi - which she won in 57.27 to file into a ranking of fourth for Sunday's final.
